![]() "Character must keep the same moveset no matter what". ![]() There are so many things he's clearly dead set on to keep that I'd like to be tossed out.ġ. Maybe the next game will specifically be about changing that but for now this is where we're at.Įh, I kind of want to see a non-Sakura Smash Brothers. ![]() It's a franchise that relies more on it's creator's unique process than most and I think more people in this thread should be willing to consider that idea. Still the consensus from within Nintendo is that Smash is one of the exceptions. You could even argue this has already happened with Smash Bros, since the series feels different enough pre and post HAL to be noticable. Kirby seemed a bit lost after Sakurai left but they found their rhythm and have produced a lot of people's favorite games. Mario and Zelda have had some of the best games in their respective series come from new blood. I've always had mixed feelings about that but it's not like it hasn't gone well for them. I've even seen it argued that the lack of a new MOTHER title is a sign of negligence or missed potential on their part when it's obvious why there wasn't another one.įor most of the other big franchises though it's expected most of the eccentricities of the original creators will be dropped in order to keep the series going, and that this is permissable as long as a good level of identity and quality control is maintained. Nintendo fans are conditioned to the the idea of the "brand" being more important than the people behind it and have been for a while now. I don't envy the position that Nintendo, Sakurai, and whatever the next team to work on Smash Bros are in. I also fear that if they "start from scratch", we are unlikely to get a lot of the smaller characters that us hardcore fans want like Skull Kid, Doc Louis, Isaac, etc.) I realize that this list is very subjective and this is just my opinion, but it brings to mind the point that even "starting from scratch" requires a ton of work, especially if we want to update movesets of characters who feel dated, like Mario, Luigi, Sonic, and Ganondorf. ![]() That brings my list to 28 essential first party characters, then 8 more essential third party characters bringing it to 36. ![]()
